General Information

The Indian Environmental Society on behalf of the Country Coordinator Mr. R. Mehta, Advisor – Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt. of India is coordinating International Train-the-Trainer workshop at Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, H.P during April 11–19, 2005.

The participants are expected to arrive at Shimla, India on April 10, 2005 (Sunday) to attend the International Train-the-Trainer workshop for the Asia and Pacific Region and depart from Shimla on April 20, 2005(Wednesday). Participants may arrive earlier if they wish so. The workshop will begin at 0900 Hrs. on April 11, 2005 (Monday). The workshop will comprise of variety of interesting activities including plenary session in the group meeting room, computer tutorial session, and hands-on measurements out-of-door. The workshop is expected to close at 1730 Hrs. on April 19, 2005 (Tuesday).

The workshop will focus on GLOBE’s “basic” protocols and student inquiry for the first five days of the workshop i.e. April 11–15, 2005 followed by two days break. The following two days April 18–19, 2005 will focus on GLOBE’s Advanced Protocols. Participants are encouraged to attend both the sessions (7 Days).

We plan to organize a visit to places in and arround Shimla, which is place famous for its scenic beuty during April 16–17, 2005. The visit would be optional.

Registration

The Registration fee for the workshop is US $ 100, which includes Reception, lunches, tea/coffee during the session and dinner at the Graduation Ceremony. The Registration fee in respect of the Indian participants will be met from the grant by Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India.

The last date for the registration is March 20, 2005.

Travel and Accommodation

The participants are responsible for the cost of travel (International), meals and accommodation.

The organizers have arranged accommodation in the University Guest House situated in the Campus of Himachal Pradesh University.

Visa Requirements

Participants coming from other countries need valid passport and visa. For details you may kindly contact Indian Embassy / High Commission in your country. In case any help is needed, kindly contact the organizers.

Currency

The Indian currency is Indian Rupees. You may exchange major world currencies in Indian Rupees at Banks and authorized Money Changer. The exchange rate to US $ is approx. Rs. 45/- (per dollar).

Weather

The weather during the month of April in Shimla is pleasent and the and the temperature will be between 15-20°C. Kindly bring woolen clothes such as jackets etc. We suggest you to bring boots and clothes, which can be used during field visits.

Please mail or fax the attached Registration and Accommodation form as soon as possible but not later than March 20th, 2005.

Approx. 15 days before the workshop all participants will receive a confirmation letter by the Country Coordinator. We will arrange to meet the overseas participants and training team at the Airport, if informed well in advance.
